UAE to Jordan Day 15 – 24 Feb 23 Friday

Another long day driving and though we are sticking to the major roads heading back to the UAE, the lot holes are still thick and fast.

You seriously need to have your wits about you. Most of the roads we are on are two lanes and this means the lorries destroy the slow lane and the other lane, the fast lane, the 160kph lane means if you are pulling a trailer at the max 100kph, you need your wits about you as much as the pot hole lane as cars and pickups come up behind you faster that the frame rate on your rear camera.

We push on beyond sunset and drive into the dark. This means it is hard finding a place to stay and just to make it harder, we are driving through Riyadh. At night and on a national holiday, I must be mad. I honestly thought it was going to be ok as the satnavs both directed us through the city on the main road and I really thought this might be a straight forward drive. We you could be forgiven for thinking that slow traffic means safer, but seriously it just means more people trying to get that one or two cars ahead of you for the 10 second advantage for them to get home but cause as much annoy as to other people as possible. Well with a trailer, I am slow and steady and let people fold around me. Amazingly I keep my cool and we get through the city I one piece. We did see even worse roads which were a sea of red lights and thought we should count our blessings.

The other side of Riyadh we stop and though we grab dinner from a pizza place at the truck stop which we regret.  Let’s just say that KSA is not renown for pizza!  We carry on for another hour or so before arriving at a small stop and settle for an early night as we intend to tackle the border crossing first thing.
